You can save a lot of money by using coupons wisely. Failing to understand the best way to use coupons can be costly for some consumers. It is a good idea to be sure you fully understand how you can use the coupons to the maximum before heading to the retailer. The best place to start is by getting organized for your trip ahead of time.

Profiting from Coupons on Items You Don’t Use

Many people believe that coupons should only be used on specific items that you would have been purchasing regardless of having a coupon. This is not necessarily the case. In fact, there are many opportunities that can have you earning a profit from your shopping trip. Surprised by this information? Taking advantage of great sales in combination of excellent coupons can bring money into their purchase meaning less money out of pocket.

How does this work? It is actually fairly simple but often overlooked. If an item is on sale and you have a coupon that brings the item down below the sale price, most stores will not give you cash back on the purchase but they will often allow you to apply that money to your purchase. For example: A can of cat food is on sale for 20 cents each and you have a coupon for 25 cents off a can of that same food you will profit by 5 cents which can often be applied to your other items. The items you purchase can always be donated to a charity after your purchase.

Waiting for the Sale

Most consumers’ shopping trips do not revolve around the day something goes on sale, but in fact is prodded by needing something in particular. In order to maximize the value of couponing it is important to consider readjusting your way of thinking. This is where the coordinating and planning come into the process. Initially it can be difficult to shop only what is on sale or for items that you have a coupon for because you are likely to need groceries that will fully feed your family. At some point you will be able to start shopping only for items that give you great savings or are free. This will start your stockpile of goods and help you save large sums of money for your family.

Start by sitting down with the local flyers before you go shopping. Look at the shopping flyer and find items for which you have coupons. This will not be as hard as you think once you get used to the process. Additionally, many stores are now taking note of what coupons are coming out and putting these out on sale to maximize the consumers’ savings in effect bringing the customers into the store.

Making sure that the items you are purchasing are on sale or marked down in the clearance rack, in combination with a coupon will save you a great deal of money and can even bring you the items for free.

There really is no right or wrong way for organizing large quantities of coupons. Some use binders for storing coupons, while other might opt for boxes with divider tabs.

There really is no right or wrong way for organizing large quantities of coupons. Some use binders for storing coupons, while other might opt for boxes with divider tabs. Some even choose not to clip anything at all. Instead, they leave their coupon inserts in full-form till sales are advertised for the coupons item. Organization is the key to maximizing savings from coupons. The various methods people use can be as diverse as the types of coupons different coupons collect.

Coupon Binders

This organization method is the one used most by coupons on TLC popular coupon show Extreme Coupons Many coupons opt for this method since the coupons stay put and organized within the binder regardless of how you carry the binder. In addition, dividers are used to make it easy to turn to the right coupon section when you find something on sale or clearance unadvertised. Coupon binders are easy to create and maintain and supplies for starting one are fairly inexpensive including a three ring binder, clear baseball card sleeves and dividers with tabs.

Coupon Boxes

You’ll rarely find people using this method since it’s not quite as popular as the coupon binder. It’s basically a box filled with coupons. You could make the box out of small tool boxes, recipe boxes, plastic storage boxes, or even shoe boxes. The only down side to using a box to store coupons is that the coupons will spill, scatter, and jumble up if the box is dropped by mistake.

Clip As You Go

Many coupon experts recommend this organization method for coupons. However, some people may find this unreliable in a few ways. The first reason would be that you are likely to miss a number of opportunities just because your coupon collection can’t be taken shopping with you. Another reason supporting this claim is that going through so many store ads and doing match-ups for your specific area can be time-consuming. You’d also need to track down which ones have been missed by your favorite site that you frequent for checking up on every weekly best deals. With methods like the coupon binder, however, you can take your coupons with you wherever you go and no longer need to perform your own match-ups.

Regardless of the form of coupon management you decide to use, it’s important that you make up your mind before you get started a successful couponers knows that saving begins with organization. Mastering the ins and outs of coupons can take very little time. The more organized and prepared you are for the upcoming sale, the more likely it is that you will be a happy shopper at check-out.

Coupon savers are an extreme example of people trying to save money. Although it is a universal desire to save money, hardcore coupon users usually go grocery shopping and get carts full at half of the retail prices. If you are looking to save money, taking a few tips from them can help you save big on your grocery bill.

Organize Yourself

Set yourself up for success by getting organized. You need to be prepared to carry your coupons with you whenever you go to the store because you never know when you will find an item on a clearance rack that you can get for free or better. Yes, better. You could get that item and a credit toward your other purchases depending on the store you are shopping in. Purchase a three ring binder and some clear baseball card sleeves that clip in. Use dividers to organize the coupons by store section to be sure you can pick out your needed coupons quickly.

Gather Your Coupons

Obtain coupons from your Sunday paper in multiples. Download printable coupons from the many locations that you can find great values such as free sites like coupons.com or smartsource.com. These are great resources for awesome savings. Contact the manufacturers of your favorite products to ask for coupons. You might be surprised to see how many of them are more than willing to get you coupons. You can also purchase coupons online at coupon clipping services and eBay. You might be thinking why pay for something when I am supposed to save money. The answer is that if you stay diligent and organized you will save far more than you will be spending. You can even ask friends, family and local businesses to set aside the circulars for you each week.

Become a Member

Once you have massed your coupon supply sign up for membership cards with your local stores. This is an easy thing to do, is free and will save you a fair amount of money. Many of the stores offer specialized discount coupons to customer card carriers only. This means that you can scan your card at the register and get your discounts immediately.

Plan Your Shopping Trips

Now it is time to prepare your shopping trips. Check out all the local circulars to see what is coming on sale. If you do not have these in paper form you can check them out online for most of the stores. Compare what is coming on sale with what you have for coupons and you will be surprised at what you can save. Even if you don’t think you can use the product, if you can get it for free or if you have a coupon that is over the sale price you could get cash toward your other purchases depending on your store. Ask your local stores for a copy of their coupon policies. They will be able to provide this easy or give you a link to the website where you can find it. Keep these handy and check them frequently as they do change.

Start saving today by getting yourself into a system and being consistent. The savings add up quickly and bring great value to your budget. You will soon find that you are spending far less on groceries and household items then ever before. Many have discovered that they can walk out of a store with carts full of products paying a small fraction of the regular prices.
